Holding Ourselves Accountable

by Christopher Gergen and Gregg Vanourek

It is all too easy to speed through life with our eyes focused only on the road ahead. The challenge is scanning the horizon from time to time to determine where we are headed. To stay on track, we need to take regular stock of our decisions and actions. Reflection keeps us focused on the right priorities and accountable to our vision and goals.

To hold ourselves accountable, we should adopt a regular routine of checking progress against our goals, ensuring that our actions reflect our priorities (Gergen & Vanourek, 2008, p. 147-148).

Coaching Call to Action

In a recent conversation with a number of clients we’ve talked about taking time out on a regular basis to plan and assess. David Allen, in Getting Things Done, calls this The Weekly Review. Unless you take this time to reflect, you can lose sight of the big picture. This week, spend some quiet time looking at your 2009 goals. What changes do you need to make so that you can truly celebrate 2009?

Pounce on a Project VIII – 2009

Come join us for the last Pounce on a Project for 2009. What project would you like to get on top of and accomplish this month? Come to Pounce on a Project VIII – 2009. Join Coach Andrea on Thursday, November 19th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Eastern. We will join as a group by phone and declare what you want to accomplish: preparing your budget for 2010, filing your expense reports, writing your newsletter for the month, or written performance reviews.

During the morning, the group will gather by phone a few times to check progress and get any support needed to finish with a bang. At noon, the group will celebrate their accomplishments. Who says projects have to be boring and tedious? Bring your lightness and fun and join us for the energization.

To sign up or learn more, call or e-mail Andrea by noon on Wednesday, November 18th. Feel free to share this with friends and co- workers, the more the merrier. (Cost of the program is only the cost of long distance phone calls.)
