FALL 2001

December 14, 2001 Novakowski Family Supports
“The Second Step”
One of my clients made me aware of a transitional program that provides services to families who have left abusive homes. She is “adopting” a family to help out for this Christmas season and asked for help by donating a gift. We are happy to respond to this personal outreach that has my client so in touch with her value of giving and helping. To adopt your own family, go to
www.thesecondstep.org Each family has a “wish list” that the program can forward to you.

December 7, 2001 Novakowski Family gives Holiday donation to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Each year in the first week of December, we sit down as a family to talk about giving to others. This year, our children, Jamie and Anna chose Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to receive our family’s gift. Why? Jamie said it quite well, “Rather than having one person or family benefit, we want to contribute to a cause that will impact advancement in a field. This has the potential to benefit many.”

November 6, 2001 Surviving Spouse Conference, New York City
Shortly after the September 11th disaster it became apparent that our communities would now be left with thousands of grieving spouses and children. Countless victims have been thrust into single parent roles overnight. Unfortunately, along with that grief comes the reality that now they must balance work life and family issues on their own. Many surviving spouses have jobs that require long working hours which will make raising their grieving children alone a daunting task. Many surviving spouses have young children and have been stay-at-home Moms. Many had no life insurance or savings. We never dreamed that a tragedy of this magnitude would leave so many unprepared to handle the future. These victims will have to make many important life decisions in the upcoming months and the Surviving Spouse Conference plans to pull together the necessary resources to help them move ahead with their lives.

Andrea, along with other coaches, will be donating free life coaching services to surviving spouses in New York City to work through important decisions in the upcoming months. Companies and individuals will also be providing assistance on financial aid, insurance, legal advice, job hunting, child care, counseling, and more. If you are interested in helping, please call or email me.

September 22, 2001 Help us Help Kids!
For the past 6 years, Andrea has ridden 50 miles on a bike on a beautiful fall day for the Rodman Ride for Kids which benefits children at risk in Massachusetts. This year she has committed her fundraising efforts to
The Home For Little Wanderers Team, one of the agencies that benefits from the Ride.

The Ride for Kids benefits more than 50,000 children and their families who receive services from children’s agencies in Massachusetts. These agencies provide residential care, counseling and treatment for abused children and adolescents, educational daycare, job training and many other services that help make children and families, schools and communities, stronger. Each year, the Ride continues to expand to benefit children’s recreational, support and advocacy organizations, as well as youth organizations in the cities and towns along the Ride route.

Andrea became involved in the Ride for Kids when she was on the Board of one of the agencies benefiting from the Ride - The Home for Little Wanderers and was the chair of the Ride for Kids Committee at the Home. While no longer taking a leadership role, she is riding.

Email Andrea if you’d like to make a donation, to participate, or to receive a brochure on this event. You can also get more information at http://www.rodmanrideforkids.org.
