Live With Purpose
by Don Soderquist

“When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could have indeed changed the world. – Unknown Monk, A.D. 1100 (Soderquist, 2006, p.9).”

Coaching Call to Action

It all gets back to the self. This week see what you want to change around you. And then, look at yourself to see the impact you are having or could have on the situation. What could you do that would make the biggest difference? I was speaking to a dear friend of mine this morning and she noticed that when she changed her behavior in a positive, calmer way, those around her couldn’t help but change, too. What will you do differently this week that has the potential to change the world?
