September 14, 2007: What and Why and How
Quote of the Week
“When the What and the Why get big enough, the How will show up.”

What and Why and How
by Steve Straus
Most people rush into trying to figure out how they’re going to accomplish some outcome. They’ve got it backwards. Spend enough time defining, designing, and describing What you want until your What is clear and compelling. Spend enough time asking and answering the Why you want it until you fully feel the results of the outcome. When your What and your Why are fully internalized, the How will, amazingly, show up. Where have you already experienced this?

Coaching Call to Action
This week spend some time describing an aspect of your business and What you want. Then be clear about Why. Does the How show up?
I’d love to hear How you are using my tips - either agreeing, disagreeing or somewhere in-between. Please share your thoughts.

Feedback on Those Pesky Little Flies!
Loyal Tip reader, Ginny Rehberg, Career and Executive Coach, had some great advice to me after reading last week’s Coaching Tip of the Week, Those Pesky Little Flies!.
“If you spend all of your time swatting lots and lots and LOTS of small pesky flies, it could take up most of your day. First ask yourself: Is this pesky little fly negatively impacting one of my TOP PRIORITIES? If not, then ignore it. If so, then fix it.
I have a small dent in the front fender of my car. It does not negatively impact my ability to provide good counsel to my existing clients (a top priority). Nor does it negatively impact my ability to attract new clients (also a priority). Furthermore, it does not negatively impact my ability to drive the car (always a priority!). In fact, there’s a funny story that goes along with the dent involving a Mexican dinner, my friend Dorothy and an unseen pole. And that’s why I still have a dent in the front fender of my car!”
Thank you, Ginny!
