Coach Andrea’s Intro My Dad, Harry A. Schoening, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, May 17th. This week’s Coaching Tip is his obituary. I share this with you to honor who he was and to give you a picture of the leadership model that guided my life. May you be touched and inspired by him as I was and continue to be. Quote of the Week “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but [...]

Coach Andrea’s Intro Dare I say it? I don’t naturally embrace change. I much prefer what I know, understand and can do. It’s more comfortable and easy, like an old pair of jeans that have been broken in. However, in the constantly changing world we live in, this doesn’t always serve me. Ralph Heath’s Tip this week gives suggestions on what you (and I) can do to create a system around us that embraces new ideas and thus change. What I especially like about this is that I don’t have to create the new ideas, I can provide the fertile space for others to generate ideas. Quote of the Week [...]

Coach Andrea’s Intro So often clients come to me because they feel (or have been told they are) deficient in certain areas. What if, instead, you were reminded of your strengths and focused on those areas? In this week’s Tip, Joelle Jay, recommends, maximizing your strengths and managing your weaknesses to truly be your best. Quote of the Week “If human beings are perceived as potentials rather than problems, as possessing strengths instead of weaknesses, as unlimited rather that dull and unresponsive, then they thrive and grow to their capabilities.” ~Bob Conklin Leading With Your Strengths By Joelle Jay To better understand the practice of tapping into your brilliance, it [...]

Coach Andrea’s Intro This week’s Tip by Jon Gordon provides tools for reframing the way you look at work situations. If you have been following my Tips and doing the homework, you aren’t a person who complains about work, however those around you may not have evolved to this point. Feel free to share this week’s Tip with them. What’s the point in complaining? It drags down your energy (and the energy of those around you) and doesn’t provide solutions. It would be more productive to use this energy to create solutions (see 3. below). Quote of the Week “Focus 90% of your time on solutions and only 10% of [...]

Coach Andrea’s Intro Jared Brox identifies four leadership traits that can keep your employees from performing at their optimum level. At times in my coaching, I work with individuals who are receiving directives from above and I can assure you that Jared Brox has hit on key points that leave people shaking their heads, burning themselves out, becoming less engaged and eventually leaving the company. If you want to support your people to continue to be enthusiastic, high performing assets to your company, make sure you’re not exhibiting the following behaviors. Quote of the Week “Leadership should be born out of the understanding of the needs of those who would [...]

Coach Andrea’s Intro As a business owner, do you have a positive attitude? Do you believe in your people, your company, and your success? Peter Wilkinson reminds us of the power of positive attitude and what you can do to promote it for your people. Coach Andrea’s Intro While celebrating my birthday on Sunday, I had a surprise visit from my son, James. He and I were on the phone catching up and sharing our plans for the day. When I asked him where he was, he turned the corner into my bedroom with a big grin on his face and said, “right here, Mom!” You have to love these kids! As I was thinking about my message to begin this week’s Tip, I looked out the window to see, once again, the snow falling. Taking Loren Ekroth’s words to heart to start with “News and Goods”, I chose to share my birthday surprise rather [...]

Coach Andrea’s Intro How’s your attitude these days? This question is a great reminder for me and I’m thinking you, too. As we get closer to year end and the pressure is on, are you forcing compliance as a leader in your organization or are you leading with optimism, hope, and enthusiasm? This week’s Tip by Kevin Eikenberry reminds us of the power of sharing enthusiasm and positive messages. Quote of the Week “Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions.” ~ Harold Geenen The Importance of Your Attitude by Kevin Eikenberry Before any big game, coaches typically give their team a pep talk. This week’s Tip by Joelle Jay, reminds us that you can be a leader in any part of your life! You can be a leader wherever you choose.
