Lost & Found

Quote of the Week

“People are always blaming circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want and if they can’t find them, make them.”

— George Bernard Shaw

Lost & Found

by Kathleen Frank

We all have moments when we feel overwhelmed and lost. Frequently, we may feel we’re continually treading water, fighting time, just trying to hang on. Yet, if we listen to the words of the song, “Let it Be” and just relax and let go, we might find that inner strength to surface and catch our breath!

When I teach, I often ask the question: How many of you like to go on vacation? Needless to say, all hands are raised. Then I ask: What is it about vacation that makes you want to take it? And most often the answer is: “Because then we can find time to just do what we want to do.” But wait — why can’t that decision be ours everyday? Aren’t life’s choices individual and ongoing? Why do we have to lose a whole year before we can find time to relax and just enjoy what’s in front of us?

Work in the technology age, especially in the USA, has become overloaded with information and stress.”So much to do; so little time.” And yet when we lose control of “time” by fretting or complaining that we just can’t keep up or find the time, then enjoyment of life will remain elusive.

Notice how often we equate life with time. For, as Ben Franklin said, “If you love life, then do not squander time-for that is the stuff life is made from.” Time waits for no one. Each second that we don’t make our own is lost forever. If we are always thinking about time lost, we will never be able to find the present possibilities and adventures that can turn things around and make all the difference. Instead of always looking back, why not take the present gift of time, use it well and make things happen for you and those around you – your family, your friends, your colleagues, your employees.

Coaching Call to Action

As I was getting ready for this week, I was feeling as though there wasn’t enough to do what I wanted to do. Wasn’t it perfect that Kathy’s Lost & Found article came to mind? It helped me to refocus on my priorities, choose the opportunities that were the best fit, and feel as thought there was plenty of time. Magical! Thank you, Kathy.

This week take time to breathe, center yourself and check in on your priorities. It can be magical!
